The mission of the Euratom Supply Agency is to maintain regular and equitable supply of nuclear materials (ores, source material and special fissile material) for all users in the European Atomic Energy Community.
The strategic objective is the security of supply of nuclear materials, particularly nuclear fuel, for power and non-power uses, by means of the common supply policy.
The Euratom Supply Agency 2025 Annual Report was published
The ESA 2025 Annual Report (manuscript completed on 30 June 2026) provides a comprehensive overview of the European Union's nuclear fuel market and highlights key trends, challenges and strategic developments in the context of the current evolving landscape. The report also outlines the Agency's 2025 key activities and a series of recommendations to provide orientation to market actors to maintain a stable and secure nuclear fuel supply. |

ESA Advisory Committee meeting took place on 11 and 12 June 2026
The Euratom Supply Agency’s Advisory Committee came together on 11 – 12 June 2026 for its first meeting under a new 2026 – 2029 mandate, for which a new chairmanship was elected.
The Committee discussed the short- and long-term security of supply of nuclear materials and Directorate-General for Energy provided a presentation on the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs and Strategy for the development and deployment of SMRs in Europe.
In the general context of an increasingly complex nuclear market landscape, the Committee decided to re-instate its Working Group on Security of Supply.
ESA presented the draft of its 2025 Annual Report, followed by the discussion and exchange of views, which the Committee appreciated and gave its favourable opinion.
A favourable opinion, on the ESA financial and budgetary statements including the Annual Accounts for the year 2025, presented by ESA’s accounting officer, was given by the Committee.
The participants informed on the latest nuclear developments in the Member States in a roundtable discussion.
The most recent plenary meeting of the Observatory was held on 23 September in Gréoux-les-Bains (France), hosted by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA Cadarache). Since 2013, the Observatory is run by the Euratom Supply Agency and its meetings are co-chaired by the Nuclear Medicine Europe (NMEU).
The Observatory reviewed the global research reactor scheduling for the remainder of 2025 and 2026. DG ENER provided an update on the latest developments related to the creation of a European Radioisotope Valley initiative in the context of the SAMIRA action plan.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to hear about CEA research on nuclear medicine and the Research Institute for Nuclear Systems for Low-Carbon Energy Production (IRESNE) activities dedicated to developing low-carbon energy through nuclear fission.
The meeting heard presentations on the project to produce Lutetium-177 medical radioisotope in Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania and the update on the European Prep-HALEU research project, aiming to build HALEU capacity in the EU.
The European Medicines Agency presented its ongoing initiatives to tackle vulnerabilities in the supply chain of radiopharmaceuticals in the EU. DGs JRC and RTD also presented their activities related to medical radioisotopes.
NMEU, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also presented their activities related to the medical radioisotopes.
Following the meeting, a technical visit to the currently constructed Jules Horowitz Material Test Reactor (JHR) was held.
